Smart Laundry + Bathroom Conversion

Nestovate completed a highly technical renovation that transformed part of an existing laundry into a fully functional bathroom with an integrated standalone powder area, while still retaining a compact yet efficient laundry zone. The project focused on intelligent space planning, structural modification, and service relocation to deliver a practical, modern wet area without increasing the home’s footprint.

The Challenge

The original layout consisted solely of a laundry that occupied more space than necessary, leaving the home without an additional bathroom. The client required a solution that would:

  • Convert part of the laundry into a complete bathroom
  • Integrate a standalone powder room within the new bathroom zone
  • Retain a functional laundry area in a reduced footprint
  • Improve layout efficiency and circulation
  • Upgrade outdated finishes and services
  • Maintain natural light despite structural changes

The main constraints involved shortening the laundry safely, modifying an existing window, and restructuring walls to accommodate plumbing, electrical, and ventilation requirements for a full wet area.

The Solution

Nestovate executed a carefully engineered redesign that balanced structural works, services integration, and modern finishes:

Structural Reconfiguration:

The laundry was shortened to free up space for the new bathroom. Half of the existing window was professionally closed to allow for new wall framing and waterproofing zones while still preserving daylight.

Wall & Access Modifications:

A new partition wall with a door cavity was constructed to define the bathroom area. The former powder room wall was opened and integrated into the new layout, transforming it into a complete bathroom space with improved flow and accessibility.

Compact Laundry Integration:

The bulky original laundry cabinet was removed and replaced with a smaller, purpose-built cabinet and compact laundry sink designed to efficiently house both the washing machine and dryer without compromising usability.

Tiling & Finishes:

All floor tiles and splashback surfaces were replaced. Grey-tone tiles were selected for the splashback to provide a contemporary, neutral palette that visually unifies the space while offering durability and easy maintenance.

Electrical & Services Upgrade:

New electrical works were carried out to support lighting, appliance loads, and bathroom compliance requirements, ensuring safety, functionality, and modern performance standards.

The Outcome

The completed renovation successfully delivers a dual-purpose wet zone that feels intentional, spacious, and architecturally cohesive despite working within the original footprint. The redesigned space is now:

  • A fully functional bathroom integrated into the former laundry area
  • Equipped with a dedicated powder zone for convenience
  • Compact yet efficient as a laundry workspace
  • Structurally optimised with improved layout flow
  • Modern in appearance with coordinated finishes
  • Durable, compliant, and future-ready

Nestovate transformed an oversized, single-purpose laundry into a refined multi-functional wet area that combines intelligent design, construction precision, and contemporary styling — proving that thoughtful spatial engineering can unlock entirely new functionality within an existing home

Before & After

The Laundry Space

The oversized existing laundry cabinetry was removed and replaced with a compact, custom-designed unit featuring a space-efficient sink, carefully configured to accommodate both the washing machine and dryer while maintaining comfortable usability. To refresh the overall aesthetic and durability, all flooring and splashback finishes were renewed, with contemporary grey-tone tiles selected for the splashback to create a cohesive, neutral look that is both modern and easy to maintain. To enable the addition of the new bathroom, the laundry footprint was strategically reduced, and half of the existing window was professionally infilled to allow for new wall construction and compliant waterproofing, while still retaining natural light within the space.
