Modern Bathroom Transformation with Enhanced Shower Space

Bathroom Renovation

At Nestovate, we specialise in coordinating bathroom renovations that combine practical design with quality finishes to maximise both functionality and visual appeal. This bathroom renovation in St Kilda transformed an outdated apartment bathroom into a bright, spacious, and contemporary space through thoughtful layout improvements and carefully selected materials.

The Challenge

The original bathroom featured a bulky bathtub that occupied valuable floor space, making the room feel confined and reducing its everyday functionality. The shower area was small, the vanity provided limited storage, and the overall bathroom appeared dated. The objective was to create a more spacious layout while incorporating modern fixtures and finishes that complemented the apartment's overall renovation.

The Solution

To create a more functional layout, the existing bathtub was removed and replaced with a generous 1000 x 800mm walk-in shower. To further increase the shower space, a new wall was constructed, partially enclosing approximately three-quarters of the existing window, allowing the shower to be enlarged while maintaining natural light within the bathroom.

The shower was finished with a black-framed shower screen and a tile insert floor waste, creating a clean, seamless appearance. The entire bathroom was tiled using 600 x 600mm beige P3 porcelain tiles, delivering a modern look while providing excellent slip resistance suitable for wet areas.

A custom 2Pac vanity cabinet with a ceramic top was installed to maximise storage, complemented by a matching shaving cabinet for additional practicality. A sleek back-to-wall tornado flush toilet suite was selected for its modern profile and efficient performance.

To complete the contemporary design, all tapware, shower fittings, accessories, and hardware were finished in matte black, creating a striking contrast against the light tile palette. A new bathroom door was installed, while the ceiling was repainted in Natural White anti-mould paint to improve durability and provide a fresh, bright finish suitable for high-moisture environments.

The Outcome

The completed renovation transformed the bathroom into a spacious, elegant, and highly functional space. The removal of the bathtub, enlarged walk-in shower, premium fixtures, custom cabinetry, and modern finishes have created a bathroom that feels significantly larger while delivering the practicality and timeless style expected in contemporary apartment living.

Before & After

Before & After – Shower Area

The original bathroom featured a bulky bathtub and a small, confined shower area that made the room feel cramped and outdated. Separate hot and cold taps, ageing plumbing, and an old shower setup lacked both practicality and modern appeal. The window area also appeared unfinished, and the existing light fitting provided poor illumination, making the space feel darker than it was.

The renovation completely transformed this area by replacing the bathtub with a spacious 1000 x 800mm walk-in shower enclosed by a sleek black-framed shower screen. New plumbing was installed to replace the old hot and cold tap configuration with a modern single mixer, complemented by a luxurious rain shower and hand-held shower for added convenience. A tile insert floor waste created a clean, seamless finish, while the window was neatly finished with black trims, giving the shower area a refined, contemporary appearance that ties in perfectly with the black fixtures throughout the bathroom. The old light fitting was also replaced with a modern LED Oyster Light, providing brighter illumination and adding an elegant finishing touch to the renovated space.

Before & After – Vanity Area

The original vanity was dated, offered limited storage, and lacked the functionality expected in a modern bathroom. The mirror and fittings had become tired over time, and there was insufficient power access for everyday appliances, leaving the space looking cluttered and impractical.

The new vanity area delivers a clean, sophisticated look with a custom 2Pac vanity cabinet topped with a durable ceramic basin, providing improved storage and a streamlined finish. A matching shaving cabinet was installed above the vanity to maximise storage while keeping everyday essentials neatly concealed. A new General Power Outlet (GPO) was installed beside the vanity to provide convenient access for appliances such as hairdryers and electric toothbrushes. Finished with elegant matte black tapware, handles, and accessories, the vanity area now offers a striking contemporary aesthetic while significantly improving both the functionality and visual appeal of the bathroom.
