Modern Bathroom Transformation

Nestovate completed a high-end bathroom renovation in Mt Waverley, converting a dated and restrictive layout into a spacious, modern, and highly functional bathroom. This tailored renovation focused on maximising usable space, upgrading core services, and integrating premium fixtures and finishes to create a refined environment suited for everyday comfort and long-term durability.

The Challenge

The original bathroom layout was inefficient and visually heavy, with an outdated bathtub and a small 800 × 800 shower limiting movement and practicality. The room featured full brick walls and a ceiling height of 2.8 metres, which made plumbing and electrical modifications more complex and labour-intensive. Storage was minimal, lighting was inadequate, and overall functionality did not meet the client’s expectations for a modern bathroom.

The Solution

Nestovate carried out a complete redesign and rebuild of the space, starting with removal of the bathtub to make way for a large walk-in shower measuring 1000 × 1500 millimetres. Because the walls were solid brick, a recessed niche was not feasible, so a custom-built ledge was created instead, maintaining practicality without compromising structural integrity. The shower was completed with a custom 10 mm frameless glass screen and hinged door for a clean, architectural finish.

The old shower area was repurposed to install a new rimless tornado flush toilet fitted with a custom bidet seat, improving hygiene and efficiency. A 1200 mm wall-hung white fluted vanity with a stone benchtop and basin was installed to provide generous storage while keeping the floor visually open. A mirrored shaving cabinet added additional concealed storage and improved lighting reflection.

Floor finishes featured 600 × 600 grey terrazzo tiles, complemented by coordinating grey wall tiles that enhanced visual continuity throughout the space. All tapware and fittings were upgraded to brushed nickel, introducing a cohesive and contemporary finish. Due to the brick construction, full new rough-in works were completed for plumbing and electrical services to suit the redesigned layout and new fixture positions.

The Outcome

The finished bathroom is a spacious, contemporary retreat that balances durability, elegance, and functionality. Strategic layout changes, structural-aware detailing, and high-quality materials transformed the once cramped and outdated bathroom into a refined modern space. The result delivers improved usability, better storage, enhanced lighting, and a sophisticated aesthetic that adds lasting value to the home.

Before & After

The redesign of the bathroom

Before the renovation, the space allocated to the old shower served a limited purpose and did not contribute efficiently to the overall layout. After the transformation, that area was smartly repurposed to accommodate a new rimless tornado flush toilet with a custom bidet seat, turning an underutilised zone into a practical, hygienic, and space-efficient feature that enhanced both functionality and comfort.

Modern Industrial Luxury

This bathroom renovation is a masterclass in elevating a space from dated utility to modern luxury. By replacing the partial-height, floral-bordered tiles with large-format, earth-toned porcelain that stretches all the way to the ceiling, the room achieves a seamless, expansive feel that visually doubles its height. The structural addition of a custom-built brick wall creates a sleek, integrated ledge for bathroom essentials, eliminating clutter while adding architectural interest. Practicality meets style with the overhauled plumbing and the installation of a brushed nickel rail shower featuring a versatile hand shower—a sophisticated upgrade from the original basic fixtures. Every detail, from the matte hardware to the cohesive textures, transforms the once-cramped corner into a high-end, spa-like sanctuary

The Walk-in Shower

Before the renovation, the bathroom felt cramped and outdated, with a bulky bathtub and a small 800 × 800 shower limiting movement, minimal storage, poor lighting, and an overall layout that didn’t suit modern living. Constructed with full brick walls and a 2.8-metre ceiling, the space required extensive work to reconfigure services, including ripping out the old floorboards and installing new Secura flooring to support the new walk-in shower.
