Hillside Home Transformation: Bathroom, Powder Room & Jack & Jill Ensuite Renovation

Complete Bathroom, Powder Room & Ensuite Transformation – Upper Ferntree Gully

At Nestovate, we worked closely with the homeowners and coordinated experienced trades to help deliver a complete bathroom, powder room, and ensuite transformation for this property located along Burwood Highway.

The project involved reimagining multiple areas within the home to improve functionality, maximise available space, and create a cohesive modern design aesthetic throughout. Due to the sloping site conditions, limited access, and the challenges of working within an elevated hillside location, careful planning and coordination were essential throughout every stage of the renovation process.

A Cohesive Modern Design Language

Across all three spaces, the design direction focused on timeless finishes with bold modern detailing. Calacatta-inspired white tiles with soft grey veining were selected throughout the renovation to create a clean and luxurious feel, while matte black fixtures and fittings added strong contrast and contemporary character.

Custom shaker-style cabinetry paired with stone benchtops and above-counter sink bowls introduced warmth, texture, and practicality into each bathroom space. LED arch mirrors were incorporated to soften the overall design and provide both ambience and functionality.

Transforming a Former Laundry into a Full Bathroom

One of the most significant parts of the project involved converting an existing laundry room into a fully functional bathroom. Through careful space planning and coordination, the area was redesigned to incorporate a walk-in shower, vanity, toilet, and integrated laundry cabinetry while still maintaining practical everyday usability.

The custom laundry cabinet was designed to neatly house both the washing machine and dryer, helping maximise storage while maintaining a streamlined appearance. A barn-style sliding door was introduced to improve accessibility and minimise the space typically required for a conventional swinging door.

The final layout successfully transformed what was once a purely utility-based room into a stylish and highly functional multi-purpose bathroom and laundry space.

Modern Powder Room Upgrade

The powder room renovation focused on creating a refined and minimalist guest space. Half-height wall tiling was used to add texture and visual depth while maintaining a clean contemporary appearance.

The existing toilet was replaced with a new back-to-wall tornado flush toilet, helping create a more seamless and modern finish while improving functionality and ease of maintenance. Black fittings throughout the powder room tied the space cohesively into the overall design palette used across the home.

Creating a Jack & Jill Ensuite on the Upper Floor

A key challenge of the renovation involved designing and carving out a brand-new ensuite on the upper level of the home. Working within the existing floorplan, part of a bedroom space was carefully reconfigured to create a shared Jack & Jill style ensuite connecting two bedrooms.

This newly created ensuite was thoughtfully planned to maximise both privacy and usability within a compact footprint. The space incorporated a walk-in shower, toilet, and a custom vanity featuring shaker-style cabinetry, a stone benchtop, and an above-counter basin.

Black bath fittings were used consistently throughout the ensuite to maintain the home’s modern design language, while the Calacatta-style tiling helped brighten the upper-level space and enhance the sense of openness.

The Outcome

The completed renovation successfully transformed multiple areas of the home into cohesive, modern, and highly functional spaces. From converting a former laundry into a full bathroom to creating a custom Jack & Jill ensuite and refreshing the powder room, every detail was carefully considered to align with the homeowners’ lifestyle and aesthetic vision.

Through detailed renovation consultation, thoughtful planning, and coordination of skilled trades, Nestovate helped bring together a complete transformation that balanced practicality, style, and modern living across every space within the home.

Before & After

Powder Room Transformation

The original powder room featured an outdated design with dark feature walls, exposed plumbing, older floor tiles, and bulky fittings that made the narrow space feel enclosed and dated.

As part of the renovation consultation and upgrade coordination, the space was completely refreshed with a cleaner and more contemporary design approach. The walls were brightened with soft neutral tones to instantly open up the room visually, while new large-format light grey floor tiles helped create a more seamless and spacious feel.

The old toilet suite was replaced with a modern back-to-wall tornado flush toilet, delivering a sleeker appearance with improved practicality and easier maintenance. Minimalist accessories and refined finishes were carefully selected to maintain a simple yet elegant aesthetic suited to the compact footprint of the powder room.

The result is a bright, modern, and highly functional powder room that feels significantly more spacious, fresh, and timeless compared to the original layout.
